Bad Guy - Billie Eilish
"Bad Guy" was written and co-produced by Canadian Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas O'Connell, and mixed by Rob Kinelski. It was released as a single in 2019. ...It was recorded using Pro-Tools DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and has fairly minimal instrumentation, and although it utilises 68 tracks, 21 of these are drums, 21 vocals, 4 bass tracks and just one for the synthesizer melody. There are 19 auxilliary tracks (running various effects and treatments) and two tracks for mixdowns. The bass and drums are electronic, the latter being based around the sounds from the Roland TR-808, an (iconic) analogue drum machine first introduced in 1980. The production focuses upon the vocals to emphasise the lyrics, and apart from some fingersnaps, shakers and the slightly 'jokey' synth melody, the only other sounds come from effected vocals. It is very much influenced by rap and hip-hop, and the lyrics are almost a pastiche of the clicheed macho posturing lyrics of many rappers.
