Click on the audio tracks (Mp3 files) below to play samples of Grade 2 ear tests for Bass Guitar, the 6 tracks are examples of the rhythmic part of the test played only on the E string. In your exam they will have a drum backing track, but we have recorded them using a simple metronome backing.

Remember, you will hear the test twice, followed by quite a short gap for you to practise, and then you should try to play the correct rhythm over the drum backing track after you hear the "verbal" count in. Keep coming back to them every few days for another try - play them in a different order!

When you have tried to play each one, you should then look at the two examples below each audio track (Example A and Example B) and decide which is one is the correct one that matches the audio.

The answers are at the bottom underneath test number 6. No cheating!

Below these 6, are 6 more examples of the melodic part of the test.

The 6 further examples below are of the melodic part of the test, they use the A minor pentatonic scale (make sure you know it before trying them!). The first note is always the low A, and the next note will always be higher, so that should help you! The formula is the same as for the rhythmic tests - you will hear them twice with a gap to practise then wait for the spoken count in.

No answers on this one - just you and your ears. Good luck, and keep trying!
